It is dark and raining and around 10% of the cars on the road only have day-time running lights and fog lights on.

We are pretty lax with our driving laws.
Also, the average person is pretty stupid. Now imagine, half of the entire nation’s population is even more stupid than the average.

And 20% of people have their brights on while tailgating me in the right lane on the freeway. Also they’re texting.

In my area at least I’ve come to the conclusion that half the people don’t know the difference between daytime running lights and actual headlights. They just assume their DRL are very dim (I’ve had this conversation with more people than I should)

I blame automatic headlamps for encouraging laziness. All of my cars have had manually-operated lights. Even the running lights stay dark unless I hit the switch.
I also blame instrument clusters that are always lit during vehicle operation. If I find myself driving as the sun is setting, it gets harder to read my gauges, because they don’t light up until I hit the headlamp switch. This “inconvenience” forces me to turn those light on.
But these features don’t cause the problem; they just contribute to it. Ultimately, the blame is on the inattentive drivers. After all, correct me if I’m mistaken, but isn’t there always a manual override to activate the lights if need be?

I can’t stand it, I’ve told countless people that and they just say “huh?” Don’t some cars have this idiot light on the dash?Mine doesn’t, but than again I don’t have auto-on headlights.

Seems like a problem that could also be solved with auto lights. If it’s dark or the wipers are on, the car turns on the headlights. Doesn’t seem tricky.

I hate people who drive around with fog lights on all the time. Or anyone who turns on all their lights all the time.

In my area, it seems to be very popular to drive w/ your parking lights on at dusk.
